Places to eat

Exmoor is home to a wonderful array of places to eat, from cosy tea rooms in countryside villages to award-winning restaurants. Many serve homemade dished using locally sourced ingredients, as well as a range of ales produced within the National Park.

To help you plan your visit we have provided some details of a few of our favourites from the local area.

The Sportsmans Inn

The traditional olde-worlde pub, The Sportsmans Inn is less than a mile from Litton Farm and prides itself in providing good service and personal touches to make sure you enjoy your time. The bar is stocked with a range of local ales and food served includes everything from light bar snacks to a la carte meals.

The Royal Oak

In Withypool, the Royal Oak is the place to eat. The family and pet friendly pub, which has been the heart of the village for more than 300 years has a relaxed atmosphere and serves homecooked food and Exmoor ales.

The Black Venus

Located in Challacombe, North Devon, The Black Venus is a splendid bar and restaurant open all year round and serving a great variety of dishes and ales. Believed to be the only inn in England with the name, The Black Venus is a great place to enjoy a meal before enjoying a walk.

The White Horse

In the heart of Exmoor is The White Horse Inn, a traditional 16th century pub that has been in the same family for many generations. Situated beside the River Exe in Exford, the White Horse is a beautiful place to sit back and relax with its roaring log fires in winter and sunny garden in summer. On offer are more than 200 malt whiskeys, local ales and locally sourced products used in homemade food.

The Exmoor Forest

The dog friendly Exmoor Forest in Simonsbath is a classic Victorian pub that serves an array of homemade food using Exmoor produce. The family run pub has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and is open for afternoon cream teas, as well as lunch and evening meals.

Poltimore Inn

In nearby North Molton the Poltimore Inn is a firm favourite serving good food at affordable prices. Where possible all produce used in the dishes is sourced locally and cooked onsite. The restaurant is open for lunch or dinner and has some wonderful views of the countryside, whilst the south facing beer garden is a lovely place to enjoy a relaxed meal with friends or family on warm summer days.

The Masons Arms

The award-wining Masons Arms in Knowstone, Devon is a beautiful, thatched 13th century inn and a stunning place to enjoy a special meal. The Michelin star restaurant is proud to serve excellent local cuisine using only the best ingredients. If looking to enjoy a meal at The Masons Arms, make sure you check when the restaurant is open and see if you need to book at table.
